Pine Wardrobe Guide

When you go to hang your clothes, where do you go? The closet? Sure. It could also be a pine wardrobe. This is an especially fine piece of furniture to use when you are living in a place with little closet space. I have done just that (as have many New Englanders), and I wish I had chosen a wardrobe made of pine.

(I chose a cheap, metal and vinyl thing. So very not pine.)

You might say pine is fine. What gives the look of pine in a wardrobe? What natural material gives us the durability of solid pine?

It is also a versatile material -- as it can be carved, and stained, and bejeweled with knobs and pulls in a variety of styles. You might say pine is just fine, and even divine.

My green-leaning heart makes me tend to be interested in re-using items -- and that is where antiques enter with regard to furniture. Think of an antique pine wardrobe as at least three things: A place to store your clothes, a link to the past, and a piece of green furniture.

• Fill it with your most important hanging clothes items,
  
• Put a sock in it,
• One side -- suits, other side -- TV,
• Treat it just like Mum told you to.
